Senior Hamas official Dr. Ismail Radwan said Tuesday that his Movement is still studying seriously and carefully the new Egyptian overture regarding the inter-Palestinian reconciliation and will give its reply soon.
In a press statement to the Palestinian information center (PIC), Dr. Radwan stressed that his Movement is keen on the higher interests of the Palestinian people and therefore it is waiting for the appropriate timing and the best atmosphere for the signing of a reconciliation agreement with Fatah faction.
He noted that this Egyptian overture emanated from the previous reconciliation paper and there are no fundamental problems about it.
As for the safeguards that protect any reconciliation agreement, the Hamas official affirmed that his Movement is concerned to have guarantees about what is agreed upon, especially after the political crime committed by Mahmoud Abbas when he delayed Goldstone’s report.
In another context, senior Fatah official Yasser Abedrabbo on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on Syria, Qatar and Iran and accused them indirectly of trying to undermine the Egyptian reconciliation efforts.
Abedrabbo alleged that Hamas’s decision to delay the signing of a reconciliation agreement in Cairo was in compliance with the will of regional powers who want to distract the Palestinians from their battle against the Israeli occupation and thus give Israel justifications to evade and disavow its commitments at the pretext that the Palestinians are not unified and not ready for peace.
“Before Mishaal’s last dinner speech in Damascus, it was obvious that there were Arab and non-Arab regional parties that instructed Hamas to disrupt the agreement,” he claimed.
“We do not care about any accusations made during the dinner in Damascus, lunch in Qatar or breakfast in Tehran,” he added. Filisitn enformasyon
